Tea with Berengaria Brown

Today I welcome Berengaria Brown, who is a multi-published author of erotic romance: contemporary, paranormal (ghosts, vampires and werewolves) and Regency-set historical. She loves to read all different kinds of romance, so that is what she writes: one man/one woman; two women; two men; two men/one woman; three men… Whatever the characters need for their very hot happily ever after, Berengaria makes sure they get it.

Rose’s Renaissance is my 22nd published book.

What are your favorite chosen genres in which you write?

Because I like to read all different sorts of books, I write across genres. I have a lot of ménage stories, mainly two men, one woman, but also three men, and two women one man. I also have some MM and some FF. I even have a one man/one woman book. Most of my stories are contemporary but several also include, ghosts, one has vampires, and one has a werewolf hero. And I have two Regency-set historicals. I like to think that whatever your tastes in erotic romance I have at least one book you’ll enjoy!

And your latest release?

Rose’s Renaissance: Rose is at the swimming pool, unhappily completing physiotherapy after breaking her leg, when she meets up with a very attractive man she saw at rehab, Oliver. Unfortunately Oliver is in a gay partnership with Kieran, an equally attractive man. Oliver and Kieran take a liking to Rose, do their swimming pool exercises together, and then go out for dinner. Dinner leads them back to Oliver and Kieran’s house where the evening ends very satisfactorily for all of them, in bed.

But Rose’s leg is not healing properly and extra measures—measures she sincerely dislikes—have to be taken. And what will happen about her growing romance with the two men?

Did you have any defining moments when you know you'd write this story or was it a slow potboiler of an idea?

A close friend broke her leg exactly how Rose broke hers. I couldn’t help but think what if she met a hunky man in rehab. What if she met two hunky men… and the book grew from there.

If you could have a say as to who would be cast as your main characters if a film were to be made, who would you choose?

Nicole Kidman as Rose. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law as Oliver and Kieran. They have some chemistry together, as well as with a woman, so they would be the perfect trio.

Have you ever been tempted to write real-life situations into your fiction and, if so, care to spill the beans?

I use things that have happened in life as ideas or incidents in the book, but the characters are not based on real people. Complexity has a heroine who suffers from severe asthma. That made me think, “Why shouldn’t an asthmatic have her own happy ever after”. But Tia is her own person, not looking or acting anything like the family member with asthma. The same with Rose. The original “Rose” broke her leg exactly as Rose does in the book. But that was just the starting point for the story.

Do you listen to music when you write and, if so, are there any particular artists you find particularly inspiring?

I like background music, not words, or at least, not the kind of words I’d sing along to. Waterfalls, bird calls, rainforest sounds.

What are the three hallmarks of a great erotic romance author?

Believable characters the reader can relate to. Sex scenes that make the reader hot and needy. A gripping plot.
